This coast is noticeably cleaner, calmer and more family-friendly. The gulf water is usually gentle, the bottom in many places is sandy and gently sloping, and the beaches themselves are long and not boxed in by high-rises. The sunsets over the water are a reason in themselves to linger on the shore into the evening.

So the "best beach" is a very personal thing: for some it's the lively City Beach with cafés right there, for others it's the almost empty shore of Pak Nam Pran, where all you hear is the wind and the waves.

City Beach is great for walks along the water's edge, morning and evening, and historically holidaymakers were taken for pony rides here — a colourful detail many remember from photos. What's good: central, everything close, easy to reach, lots of infrastructure. Who it's for: first acquaintance with the resort, those who want to be in the thick of it and dislike long transfers. Crowds: the busiest beach in the area, especially in high season and on weekends.

It's calmer than the city beach, with pleasant views of the hill and the gulf. There are plenty of seafood restaurants and cafés along the shore, so Takiab is loved for the combination of sea and an unhurried lunch with a view. What's good: calmer than the centre, lovely views of "Monkey Mountain", lots of places to eat. Who it's for: those wanting a bit more quiet than the centre, but without full seclusion. Crowds: moderate — livelier than the quiet southern beaches, calmer than City Beach.

Sand, an unhurried rhythm, few tourists — it's a lovely place to spend half a day away from the bustle. What's good: quiet, cosy, few people, the feeling of "your own" place. Who it's for: those tired of the crowd, looking for a calm beach to relax. Crowds: low — one of the quietest beaches closer to Hua Hin.

Suan Son (Suan Son Pradipat) — сосновый пляж местных. Suan Son — пляж, который особенно любят сами тайцы. Его узнают по соснам вдоль берега, дающим тень, — отсюда и название. It's recognisable by the pines along the shore that give shade — hence the name. It's calm, clean and almost homely here: families come for picnics, others simply rest in the shade of the trees. There are noticeably fewer tourists than in the centre, and the atmosphere is relaxed and local. What's good: shade from the pines, quiet, a "local" atmosphere, cleanliness. Who it's for: relaxed downtime, picnics, those who want to feel informal Thailand. Crowds: low, livening up mainly on weekends thanks to locals.

Людность: низкая — один из самых тихих и просторных пляжей района.Pak Nam Pran / Pranburi (Lazy Beach) — the space and quiet of the south. About 30 kilometres south of Hua Hin begins the Pak Nam Pran coast — wide, clean and uncrowded. This is a whole different pace: a long line of sand, a sandy gently-sloping bottom, open space and the feeling that the beach is almost yours alone. No wonder one stretch here is called Lazy Beach: people come precisely for unhurried, undisturbed rest. There's plenty to see around too: the scenic Khao Kalok cape nearby and Pranburi Forest Park with its mangrove trails. And it's here, on steady wind and flat water, that our home kite spot sits — but more on that just below. What's good: wide, clean, uncrowded, sandy bottom, open space. Who it's for: relaxed downtime, seclusion and kitesurfing. Crowds: low — one of the quietest and most spacious beaches in the area.

Там меньше людей, больше песка на каждого и то самое чувство «моря для себя», за которым многие и едут в эти края.To boil it down to one principle: for quiet and space, head south. Central Hua Hin is lively and convenient, but the most relaxed rest begins further south — at Khao Tao, Suan Son and especially the wide shores of Pak Nam Pran. There are fewer people there, more sand per person and that very feeling of "the sea to yourself" that many come to these parts for.
